THE SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY

Homework…Huh I can deal with that…

So when the teacher says: "Homework Jessie?" I have a collection of response at hand….

"Ahhhh…my father had a nervous breakdow…and…..he cut it up to make paper dolls..?!"

"Ohhh you poor thing"

But the school cross country…that’s something else! It’s the same thing every year……get nervous ….Get beaten….Get mad…Cross country - what’s the big deal????I don’t see it changing my life!

Like some big corporate suit's going to say…"Well we’re seeing a lot of applicants obviously so we’ll…oh hang on…it says here ran in your school cross-country?…Oh well…that changes EVERYthing…the jobs yours!"

And worst of all…I have to put up with Dad. Oh I’m sorry…did I say Dad. I meant…Hurricane Holmes

"That’s what they used to call me. And you know why? I was the fastest over 50 yards in the entire South Otago district! I know it’s not your ‘thing’ Jess. But if you can’t do it for you…do it for me. Do it for all the men and woman who look back and say I was going to be something…. What do you say?"

"Nahhh!"

"I’ll buy you that CD you really want"

Ummm…. Cross-country…..CD….crosscountry….CD….crosscountry…..CD

"O.K!!"

And so the big day arrived. Dad got excited……. I got nervous…….Dad got held up…….I got beaten………Dad got mad……….And I got my CD!

Cross-country…I love it! Bite me
